Storey Named Delta's TOTY

Delta Innovative School principal Lamar Thomas recently announced Daniel Storey has been selected as Delta’s Teacher of the Year.  A graduate of Valdosta State University with a BA in Political Science and a MAT in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies, Mr. Storey has been teaching for Brooks County Schools for three years. He currently teaches World History, American Government, United States History, and Economics to students enrolled in grades 9-12. “I got into teaching because I like helping people. I also love history and sharing that love with my students.  When my wife and I were dating, she suggested that I try my hand at teaching.” said Storey.  To share his love of history, Mr. Storey enjoys creating new experiences to get students engaged in history and finds the creation of these experiences to be one of the most rewarding aspects of the teaching profession. “The most challenging aspect of teaching is getting students to realize their full potential and overcome their fears.” stated Storey. “Mr. Storey creates innovative strategies to help his students love history as much as he does.” according to Mr. Thomas. Three years of teaching have brought many teaching memories. One of his favorite memories is when he gets to call parents and guardians to let them know that their baby will be graduating. Storey said, “Several students have asked me to do that for them. It never gets old.”

Mr. Storey enjoys collecting art, vinyl records and vintage furniture. He is a huge fan of Trojan Baseball. The son of Russ Storey and Missy Storey, he and wife Penny have two children, Lennox (age 6) and Bembry (age 4).  He and his family enjoy serving at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Mr. Storey will represent Delta Innovative School for the 2021-2022 school year as Teacher of the Year and will compete at the district level for the title of Brooks County Schools Teacher of the Year. The BCS Teacher of the Year will be named at the Teacher of the Year banquet hosted in the fall.  Pictured is Daniel Storey - Delta Innovative School’s Teacher of the Year and Principal Lamar Thomas
