The Georgia Department of Education recently launched the Georgia Schools Care initiative, a statewide effort uniting students and staff in support of a shared cause. Running from November 19 through December 18, 2024, this initiative provided an opportunity for the education community to make a meaningful impact on those in need.
The Department partnered with Clark’s Christmas Kids, a program dedicated to ensuring children in foster care wake up with gifts on Christmas morning. Through this initiative, schools across the state contributed donations to help bring holiday joy to children in need. The Georgia Schools Care initiative was designed to highlight the power of collective giving, proving that even small sacrifices can make a substantial difference when combined.
Brooks County Schools embraced the initiative wholeheartedly, demonstrating an extraordinary level of generosity. Due to their exceptional participation, the district earned the prestigious Diamond Star School designation. This honor is reserved for schools where participation exceeds 100%, based on a minimum $1 donation from both students and staff.
“This initiative was an incredible opportunity for our school community to come together and make a real difference in the lives of children in need,” said Dr. Maura Lewis, Director of Student Services. “We are honored to be recognized as a Diamond Star School and are so proud of our students and staff for their generosity and compassion.”
The success of the Georgia Schools Care initiative showcases the dedication of Georgia’s educational institutions to fostering a spirit of kindness and community service. Brooks County Schools’ outstanding participation exemplifies their commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom.
