Jayla Butts and Jasilyn Troy recently signed their REACH Scholarship pledge as family and friends watched. Butts and Troy are current 8th graders at Brooks County Middle School and are members of the class of 2029. Brooks County High School has seventeen REACH Scholars who are members of the Class of 2025 through the Class of 2028.
REACH Georgia is a statewide mentorship and scholarship program. It provides academically promising students with the academic, social and financial support to help make their dreams of college and a bright future a reality.
REACH applicants fill out an application in the spring of 7th grade and recipients are selected and announced in the fall of their 8th-grade year. In a fall signing ceremony, scholars sign a contract along with their parent/guardian to maintain a 2.5 HOPE GPA, continue to have good behavior and school attendance, and meet with a volunteer mentor and academic coach throughout high school.
“We are extremely proud of these scholars! They have committed to graduating from high school and to attending a college or university. We appreciate the generous donation from the Brooks County Museum and Cultural Center who are committed to assisting Jayla and Jasilyn with their goal of going to college after graduating from Brooks County High School” stated Dr. Maura Lewis, Director of Student Services and coordinator of the REACH Scholarship program.
