Brooks County School District proudly joins the nation in celebrating #TeachAg Day, a time to recognize the importance of agricultural education and the teachers who inspire future generations of agricultural leaders. With Ag Education programs offered from kindergarten through 12th grade, the district is committed to providing students with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for careers in agriculture, one of Georgia's most vital industries.
From their first day in the classroom, Brooks County students engage with agriculture in meaningful ways. The K-12 curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, from basic plant and animal science to advanced agricultural mechanics and agribusiness. By the time students reach middle school, they have the chance to participate in Future Farmers of America (FFA), where they can hone their leadership skills, compete in career development events, and even earn scholarships for further education.
Brooks County School District's Agriculture teachers include Christy Thomas, Brooks County High School; Josie Brightwell, Brooks County High School, Rebecca Crowder, Brooks County MIddle School; Dr. Marilyn McClusky, Delta Innovative School; Bailey Walden, Quitman Elementary; and Ashleigh Hurst, North Brooks Elementary School.
"We’re proud to offer Ag Education at every level because it equips our students with skills they’ll use for the rest of their lives," said Brian Law, Director of CTAE. "Whether they choose to pursue a career in agriculture or simply become more informed citizens, these lessons are invaluable."
As #TeachAg Day shines a spotlight on agricultural educators across the country, Brooks County Schools recognizes the dedication of its own teachers, whose passion and expertise continue to shape the future of the industry.
