Georgia Future Educators Signing Day is held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, during Teacher Appreciation Week. This endeavor is supported by the State School Superintendent’s Office, Division of Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE), Georgia Early Childhood Education Foundation (GECEF), and Georgia’s colleges and universities. The purpose of this day is to promote education as a career choice. We need to celebrate becoming an educator so that we can fill the needs of Georgia school systems.
Seniors in the class of 2023 across our state are participating in Georgia Future Educator Day where they will sign a commitment to one day become among the ranks of great teachers in our schools and in our history. Brooks County High School has three students that will pursue the profession.
Alysha Brown will be attending Wiregrass Technical College and then transfer to major in Early Childhood Education. She plans to be a Kindergarten teacher. Madison Rimes will attend Valdosta State University and transfer to UFM to major in Early Childhood Education. She plans to be teach Kindergarten and study to one day be a principal. Jeniah Wakefield will attend The Fort Valley State University to major in Elementary Education to become a Kindergarten or Elementary Art Teacher.
Each student signed a commitment to become a Georgia Educator. Family, friends, school and system educators were on hand to encourage them to continue their committment to education. Six young ladies from BCHS attended the 26th Annual SK Day where they participated in door prizes, math competition, hands-on activity such as making Kaleidocycles and other workshops that celebrates women in mathematics and other STEM areas. Twelve area high schools participated in this event. Go Math Trojans!

BCHS ECHOES students are required to attend regularly Monday thru Thursday 2:45 - 6:00 p.m.
BCHS FFA Plant Sale continues today, 03/30/23 and tomorrow while quantities last. See pictures of what was waiting on you when the sun came up this morning. All 4" bedding plants are $4.00 and Beefsteak Tomatos are $8.00 for a 4" pot with two plants in each pot (cheaper than Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot) and grown by Brooks County High School Students who have hand watered and fertilized each plant.
Enter through back of school at the CTAE Greenhouse where our friendly, FFA students are waiting to serve you! 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM (system employees who need to come by after school please contact BCHS to order your plants and you can pick them up after school)
Now is the time to get your plants and plan for your spring planting. Your chid woud love to help work in your yard next week on Spring Break (They will be saying they are bored by Wednesday. So, have a plan for them.)

Brooks High FFA Members to Compete at State FFA Convention
The Brooks County High School FFA Chapter is excited to announce that its members, Matthew Ferrell and Hunter Brantley, have been selected as State Finalists and will be competing at the Georgia State FFA Convention in Macon from April 27th to 29th through a live, in-person interview process.
Chapter President Matthew Ferrell's passion for working with show pigs has been a major part of his supervised agricultural experience. He has worked on several hog farms over the years, gaining extensive experience in swine management and husbandry. Ferrell's dedication to this field of work even led him to pursue an internship at Danner Livestock in Indiana, where he was able to further develop his skills in animal care and production. Through his experience and hard work, Ferrell has become a top contender - 1 of 3 in the state - in the Swine Placement Proficiency category, impressing judges with his knowledge and expertise in the field.
Brantley is a State Finalist in the Agriscience Fair, Environmental - Natural Resources, Division 3. His project, "Do Livestock Cause an Increase of Tetracycline Resistant Bacteria Colony Forming Units in Soil?," involved evaluating soils exposed to livestock compared to those not exposed to livestock. He cultured bacteria and compared the count of bacterial colony forming units, which he reported in a 34-page paper. Using statistical analysis, he was able to support his hypothesis concluding that the two groups of soils are statistically similar. Brantley is 1 of 4 students in the state in his division.
A state win for these students will allow them standing to apply to compete for the coveted status of National Finalist, in hopes of competing at the National Convention in the Fall.
Preston Welch will also be appearing onstage, receiving his State FFA Degree at the Convention. Ferrell will be recognized for winning the State FFA Swine Showmanship Division.

Spring is in the air (and the pollen too)! Spring Break is near! Get the Spring Fever with plants from Brooks County High School FFA. The annual Spring plant sale will begin Wednesday at 10:00 AM unti 1:30 PM through Friday (while quantities last). See the attached advertisement and come get your plants!
Student Government hosted the 4th Annual Powder Puff Football Classic. The PPFC game features grade level teams of coaches and players vying for the coveted championship trophy. All teams put on a show representing their class and brought that hammer on the field. This year's game ended with a dramatic finish, as the Class of 2025 won the 2023 Powder Puff Football Classic with a pick-6 in the final seconds.

Brooks County CTAE recently held the annual "Career/College Fair" in the BCHS Gymnasium. Over 40 vendors were on hand to share about careers, college and military options after high school to 7th to 12th graders. We appreciate the support of our community as "We Pledge to Inspire and Educate Every Student" and Bring that Hammer after high school. Thanks to Citizens National Bank of Quitman, The Quitman-Brooks County Chamber of Commerce, First Presbyterian Church of Quitman, First Baptist Church of Quitman, and BTW Funeral Services for their generous donations.
The drama students are excited to present this play to our community! Mr. Mitchell, CTAE Construction Teacher, is excited to work with his students to build the set. Mr. Goins, Drama Teacher, is so excited that his students are doing some of the best acting (even teary eyed at how amazing they are doing) and getting the British accents in this funny play that will leave you laughing until you are crying and cheering. Yes, British accents from Brooks County students.... You don't want to miss this performance on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00PM in the BCHS Performing Arts Center (PAC). Tickets are $5.00 at the door.
Reminder: Tomorrow, Saturday, March 11th at 10:00 AM at Brooks County High School ECHOES will host Valdosta State University Educational Talent Search. There will be door prizes, food, games, STEM and information to prepare students for College and Career Readiness. All Parents and Students are invited to attend.
